Insights from the First Survey conducted by the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FACCI)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Pierre-Andr\u00e9 Imbert, Ambassador of France to Australia, has recently highlighted the noteworthy results of the inaugural “Survey on French-Owned Australian Entities and French Entrepreneurs in Australia,” conducted by the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FACCI). This comprehensive survey underscores the increasing presence and influence of the French economic community throughout Australia, showcasing its diversity across various sectors, including energy, transportation, and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

France has secured its position as the third-largest investor in Australia, making substantial strides through significant acquisitions such as Saint Gobain\u2019s acquisition of CSR, L\u2019Or\u00e9al\u2019s purchase of Aesop, and In Vivo\u2019s acquisition of United Malt. In addition to these major deals, numerous smaller acquisitions contribute to the robust economic landscape that French companies are creating across the nation. Currently, there are 800 subsidiaries of French companies operating in Australia, collectively supporting over 80,000 jobs. This remarkable figure illustrates the tangible impact that French investments have on the Australian economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, the economic ties between Australia and France are reciprocal. Australian companies also actively invest in France, reinforcing the country’s status as Europe\u2019s premier destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) for the sixth consecutive year. These statistics reflect the strength of the economic partnership between the two nations, which continues to foster growth and collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The survey conducted from September 2024 to March 2025 gathered insights from 342 entities throughout Australia, offering valuable data on the presence of French businesses. The survey featured a 12-question format distributed through FACCI\u2019s communication channels\u2014ranging from social media outreach to direct emails\u2014ensuring widespread participation and data collection. This collaborative effort enabled stakeholders to share their experiences and insights, resulting in a clearer understanding of the French business ecosystem in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
