Or even you!! <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-medium is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Satchmo-and-Lou-Cover-636x450.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86101\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Satchmo-and-Lou-Cover-636x450.jpeg 636w, https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Satchmo-and-Lou-Cover-600x425.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Satchmo-and-Lou-Cover-120x86.jpeg 120w, https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Satchmo-and-Lou-Cover.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The difference between Bill\u2019s cat and L\u00e8o\u2019s is that L\u00e8o\u2019s \u201cSox\u201d (\u201cChausette\u201d in French) is a Main Coone, descendant of the tiger family, as are Satchmo and Lou, two mischievous Main Coone descendants, rescued from a rubbish bin at Melbourne Tullamarine international airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Illustrated by Paris-based, illustrator extraordinaire, L\u00e8o Forest, who specialises in illustrations of cats, and written by Melbourne-based Margot McDonald, ex film and television producer, the story tells of the good fortune of these two mischievous cats, Satchmo and Lou, who find their way from the bin to a beautiful home and hence manage to charm all who come in contact with them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">McDonald says, \u201capparently, we\u2019re living in a time when children\u2019s reading is at its lowest in twenty years.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the hope to change this, the first Booker Children\u2019s Prize has recently been created. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"514\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_3096.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-86104\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_3096.jpg 514w, https:\/\/lcanews.naphix.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_3096-386x450.jpg 386w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">L\u00e8o Forest, the illustrator of \u2018Satchmo and Lou\u2019 <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sir Frank Cottrell-Boyce, the inaugural Chair of Judges for the Prize, says \u201creading &#8211; especially shared reading &#8211; really helps build the apparatus of happiness inside a child. When you share a story, when you share a book, you\u2019re giving a child a hug that will last them the rest of their lives. It\u2019s a magic bullet for resilience and happiness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Satchmo and Lou is a bitter sweet story with a certain humour that doesn\u2019t speak down to children and hopefully will expand their world of caring and tenderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Margot and L\u00e8o met by Instagram; when Margot saw that L\u00e8o\u2019s speciality was cats, \u201cand not just your ordinary cat,\u201d she says, she contacted him by Insta, sussed his interest, sent him her story and so began nine months of collaboration with neither of them speaking the others language. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They both agree the outcome has been extremely successful. Even the framer of the original illustrations \u2013 also an illustrator and owner of three (cats), was moved to almost tears as he slowly worked through the images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forest says, \u201cWhen I was able to read the story of Satchmo &amp; Lou, I found it funny and touching at the same time. Two Maine Coon siblings who had the extraordinary chance to stay together, live a happy life, have some adventures, and rediscover their animal instincts in nature. It\u2019s also the story of two cats in a person\u2019s life. This is the first time I am illustrating a children\u2019s book. I have always wanted to do this.
