After a record-breaking edition in 2024, the highly anticipated French Christmas Market at Lycée Condorcet returns this Saturday, December 13, to celebrate its 60th anniversary under the banner of Franco-Australian friendship. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the market will inaugurate a new tradition: honoring a French region.
This year, Brittany will be in the spotlight. You’ll find traditional Breton galettes and crêpes at the Brittany Down Under by Four Frogs corner (Zone 6). Or, if you prefer to dance, let yourself be carried away by the rhythm of Celtic and folk tunes, a glimpse into Brittany and a specialty from Portugal created by monks, with a bowl of cider in hand!
The Franco-Australian connection is further highlighted by a unique exhibition by Alexandra Raynaud, a French photographer based in Sydney. Exceptionally open to the general public on market day, Echoes – Zoom & Bloom by Alex brings together 14 poetic diptychs comparing landscapes in France and Australia.
However, the annual event remains a true Christmas market. Indeed, the festive spirit will be in full swing with all the classics: designer stands (Sessùn, La Coque Française, Aurélie Bidermann), lifestyle brands (Tefal, Payot) and handmade items (Guanabana Handmade, Craie Studio) await visitors in search of that rare gem. There will also be the annual raffle, with many prizes to be won, including a Payot advent calendar.
So, whether for adults or children, the market promises to offer a unique experience for those who want to soak up the magic of Christmas while celebrating the French art of living. And of course, to digest the delicious pastries eaten on site, a short walk will be welcome! With record crowds expected, the adjacent streets (Ian and Loch Marie) are likely to be congested. So try your luck on Holmes St or Storey Rd: a few extra steps to enjoy the festivities with a light heart (and stomach).
