Kick-off is at 4am Australian Eastern time this Saturday 4 July, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. For the millions of supporters who want to experience the moment outside their living room, official fan zones and pubs are opening their doors right across the country. Here is the complete guide.
The match is broadcast live and free on SBS and SBS VICELAND, and streamed live on SBS On Demand, with coverage beginning from 3am.
For those who prefer to share the experience with fellow fans, here are the confirmed official fan zones across the country. In Sydney, two sites are welcoming supporters: Tumbalong Park in the Darling Harbour precinct, and Cathy Freeman Park at Sydney Olympic Park. In Melbourne, fans can gather at AAMI Park. In Brisbane, the fan zone is set up at South Bank. In Adelaide, the site is at The Drive. In Perth, Northbridge Piazza is hosting supporters. In Canberra, two sites are available: the University of Canberra Refectory and Garema Place. In Hobart, two venues are opening their doors: the Odeon at 167 Liverpool Street and the Cathedral at 153 Liverpool Street.
To avoid long queues at the fan zones, pubs are an excellent alternative. Opening hours have been relaxed especially for the occasion: in New South Wales, all venues broadcasting the match will be allowed to open from 3am. In Victoria, pubs and bars can stay open all night. In Queensland, venues are permitted to trade from 3am to 7am on match day.
For supporters in Australia’s French and francophone community, a reminder that the winner of this match will face either Argentina or Cape Verde in the quarter-finals in Atlanta on 7 July. A historic occasion for the Socceroos, who have never won a knockout match at a World Cup.
